Historically, on the Day of (No) Silence, students and allies across the country observed the day by taking a vow of silence to honor LGBTQ+ young people who had been silenced by bullying, harassment, or discrimination. This act served as a powerful reminder of the weight carried in what goes unspoken—and what’s too often ignored. While the way people observe this day has evolved, the message remains: for many LGBTQ+ youth, silence isn’t a choice—it’s a survival tactic in unwelcoming schools, communities, or even homes.

At The Trevor Project, we recognize the pain behind that silence—but also the strength in breaking it. Creating welcoming, inclusive environments where LGBTQ+ young people feel seen and supported is essential. Whether you're a teacher, a caregiver, a peer, or an ally, you can help make that possible.

No young person should feel like they have to stay silent to stay safe. As we honor this Day of (No) Silence, let’s recommit to breaking that silence with intention, compassion, and action. When we build spaces where LGBTQ+ youth are embraced for who they are, we create a world where everyone feels safe to speak, share, and simply exist without fear.

Support from individuals like you enables The Trevor Project to continue our work to end LGBTQ+ youth suicide through our crisis services as well as the development of resources and guides like these to promote education and allyship.
