Dear John,
The news starts coming, and it never stops coming! But, the never-ending churn of the news cycle and chaos from Trump and his MAGA cronies isn’t going to overwhelm us. They want us distracted so we stand idly by as the rich get richer, but we’ve built our support networks, we’re fired up, and we're ready to keep organizing. There is nothing we cannot overcome as long as we stand together, arm in arm to fight for what we all need to thrive — and we know Minnesotans can get it done because we’ve done it before.

Here’s what we’re reading, watching, and listening to this week.
1. DFL Federal Action Town Halls across Minnesota
Across Minnesota our federal and state DFL representatives are bringing folks together at town halls to hear directly from the public on how federal government actions are harming Minnesotans. They’ll be held through the next few weeks and are an opportunity to ask your representatives questions and join your community in fighting back against the MAGA regime.

2. House Republicans pass Trump’s $800 Million in Medicaid cuts
The House has voted to pass their budget, bolstering funding for Trump to continue violently deporting immigrants, kidnapping college students off the street, while slashing funding for critical services like Medicaid and Medicare. The House and Senate GOP will continue to insist these services millions of Americans rely on will be safe, but we’re well aware that who they deem worthy of protection are ultra-wealthy billionaires, not everyday folks like us.
Are you or someone you know worried about how these cuts will impact your care? Reply to this email and tell us about it! We’re bringing the message to elected officials across Minnesota.

3. SAVE Act: House Passes GOP Voting Bill That Could Disenfranchise Millions
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE Act) has passed the house floor vote with full support from Republicans and four Democrats. This bill is anything but a safeguard; it’s a hurdle that will disenfranchise millions of voters without access to the documents, like passports or birth certificates, the bill would require to register to vote. Half of American citizens, about 146 million Americans, do not own a passport, and 69 million American women who have changed their last name after marriage wouldn’t have a valid birth certificate to register to vote under the SAVE act.

4. MN House bill aims to assist families with child care costs
Childcare is expensive but Minnesota’s legislature is actively working to lessen the cost burden on families in our state. Ensuring our kiddos are getting the early education they need is an investment in the future of our state, and this bill aims to make that change to our education system we’ve been fighting for.

5. Resistance is alive and well in the United States
In the first four months of Trump’s presidency we’ve seen countless street protests but we’re seeing organizing take on a broader approach nationally. Noncooperation campaigns, which are centered on withholding labor or purchasing power, are historically some of the strongest forms of protest and they’re quickly becoming an integral piece of resistance the MAGA regime. Folks are boycotting Tesla to protest DOGE’s mass firing of federal employees and in Minnesota we’re building community power with renters, performers, and parents so we can fight back and win what we need to thrive.

6. TCUP: Fighting for Minnesota to be the best place in the world for musicians and performers
Twin Cities United Performers’ (TCUP) delivered their power pledge to venues across Minneapolis on March 28th. The pledge’s ask is simple: that venues use the TCUP advance to make it easy to get the info you need before showtime, so performers aren’t scrambling last minute or dealing with surprises. While some venues are good about transparent communication, it’s not the standard in our scene. This organizing work is critical to spreading TCUP's message to the public and reinforcing that by working performers being able to work hand in hand with venues, we can make the Twin Cities the best place to be a performer.
