Honoring PNNL'S 60th Anniversary

Image

This week, I introduced a resolution in the House to honor the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for their 60th anniversary.

PNNL is one of the most influential national laboratories in the country, tackling some of our nation’s most complex challenges across energy, the environment, and our national security. As one of the largest employers in Central Washington, I am proud to have some of the brightest minds from across the nation, and the world right here at home.

Important Votes I Took This Week
This week, I joined my colleagues in passing the Senate amended budget resolution. Passing the legislation unlocks the next step in the reconciliation process allowing Congress to reduce federal spending, lower inflation, and advance a conservative agenda to get our country back on track. It will be no easy task, but Republicans must stay unified to deliver for the American people.
On Wednesday, I voted YES on the passage of H.R. 1526, the No Rogue Rulings Act. This legislation reins in the influence of activist judges who have weaponized nationwide injunctions against executive authority.
On Thursday, I voted YES on the passage of H.R. 22, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act) to protect American elections and ensure only American citizens are casting votes.
WA Delegation Congratulates Dr. Kirk Schulz

Image

On Monday, I joined the Washington delegation in honoring the legacy of Washington State University's President, Dr. Kirk Schulz.

Under President Schulz’s tenure, WSU strengthened its reputation as a world-class research institution, addressing critical challenges in agriculture, medicine, and clean energy. His efforts have ensured that students have access to high-quality education, and his work with Washington’s congressional delegation has helped secure funding for key university initiatives.

Each of Washington’s ten congressional districts has benefited from President Schulz’s leadership, reinforcing WSU’s role as an institution that serves all Washingtonians.

We thank President Schulz for his years of service and look forward to seeing how his legacy continues to inspire WSU in the coming years.

Go Cougs!

Turning Food Waste Into a Full Plate

 Image

On Tuesday, Representative Chellie Pingree (ME-01) and I relaunched the bipartisan Congressional Food Recovery Caucus. The caucus works to identify commonsense, bipartisan solutions to reduce food waste across the nation.

Food security is a real issue for millions of Americans, and the rate in which we waste food in the U.S. continues to climb. Together, we will work to ensure those in need have access to the healthy food our farmers and ranchers work hard to deliver.

Advocating for Commonsense Reforms

Image

This week, the House Agriculture Committee held a hearing on expanding opportunities through SNAP reforms.

We discussed the ways we can work to strengthen the relationship between SNAP recipients and employment in our country.

SNAP is a vital program for Central Washington. In order to support those who rely on it, we must focus on the intention of this program which is to be supplemental to families who truly need it.

Congrats to Jeffrey Noah, Winner of the Congressional App Challenge

Image
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of meeting Jeffery Noah, the winner of the Congressional App Challenge for Washington's Fourth District.
His app, Canari, helps the agricultural industry address crop issues and protect our food supply. The app also offers predictive tools, which help forecast potential threats to crops based on current environmental conditions, historical data, and local trends.
It is great to see such impressive work coming out of Central Washington.
Congratulations Jeffrey!
Ensuring Affordable Energy in Central Washington

Image

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with leaders of the Public Power Council to discuss the importance of maintaining affordable and reliable energy for Central Washington.
We focused on how we can work together to electrify rural and underserved areas in our district at the lowest cost possible.
Our state's population is growing at a rapid rate, and with it a demand for more energy. I look forward to working with these leaders to keep the lights on in our homes and communities.
Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights

Image

On Wednesday, I met with members of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and spoke about the impact the firearm industry has in Washington State.
In 2024 alone, the hunting and shooting sports industry supported nearly nine thousand jobs and two billion dollars in total economic activity in WA. However, fringe activists have pushed for financial institutions to deny services to legal and regulated businesses in the firearm industry for political purposes.
I will continue to work with the NSSF to protect and uphold our nation's constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Supporting Our Troops and Veterans

Image

This week, I had the privilege of meeting with representatives from the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) to talk about some of their priorities for 2025.
During our meeting, we discussed key issues impacting our military service members, veterans, and their families.
It is incumbent upon us in Congress to ensure the needs of those who have served our country are met, and together we will continue to explore ways Congress can better support our troops.
