John, despite government cuts to foreign aid, we continue to deliver on our promise to save children’s lives.
Today, we’re sharing the latest reports from children and staff members around the world:
MYANMAR — MARCH 29, 2025
We’re in a race against time to avoid the secondary impacts of the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 3,000 people in Myanmar. Children and their families are now facing decreased access to already limited public services, disease outbreaks and rising hunger.
Our teams are distributing food and water to impacted communities and preparing to deliver kits containing toiletries, blankets, tarps to provide shelter and learning and recreational materials for children.

Yoon May,* 16, and her family survived the earthquake, although her home is severely damaged. She shared what her life is like right now:
“We’ve been sleeping outside in an open field in front of our house for two nights now, using only a mosquito net. I haven’t been able to sleep at all. We have no electricity, no water and phone and internet connections are unstable. We rely on our neighbor’s solar battery just to keep our phones charged and stay in touch with others. Commodity prices have skyrocketed in just a few days, making it difficult to buy food.”

Shaima Al-Obaidi, Senior Media Manager for Save the Children UK, reported on her experience during heavy airstrikes on March 17th — one of the deadliest days for children in Gaza:
“It was a night of terror, but one that is all too familiar for Gaza’s children and families after 16 months of war. A reported 174 children were killed – one of the largest child death tolls in a single day.”

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO — MARCH 11, 2025
Charmante Kinja, our Humanitarian Program Coordinator at a health center in the DRC, reports similar concerns:
“The center is a beacon of hope where thousands of lives are being saved, especially at this difficult time for my community. In this situation, it is more important than ever that people affected by the conflicts can receive support, and here in this health center, the influx of sick and injured people is immense. The health workers are doing everything they can to provide support, but the needs are exploding.”

John, the impact of cuts to foreign aid have affected our work in Gaza and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Foreign aid allows us to work with our partners to deliver lifesaving programs around the world so children can grow up healthy, educated and safe. But government funding cuts have removed around 25% of our funding — putting critical health, education and protection programs in jeopardy.
