A Note From the Desk of Congresswoman Letlow
This week, Congress passed a budget resolution from the Senate which keeps us on track to pass President Trump’s agenda of lower taxes, more American energy production, and a secure border. In the weeks ahead, I will continue to keep you informed as this legislation makes its way through Congress.
While Congress has been in session for the last few weeks, I’ve still made it a priority to visit with constituents while at home in Louisiana. I recently spoke about issues affecting our country with constituents in Morehouse Parish, which you can read about here, and have also had the opportunity to attend events in the Baton Rouge area.
It is my priority to keep constituents informed through multiple avenues. If this is your first time reading this newsletter, visit my website to sign up for future editions! Supporting Economic Development
Louisiana has seen some exciting announcements in recent months, with Meta announcing a new data center in Richland Parish and Hyundai planning a huge new investment in Ascension Parish. I believe that we are on the verge of a great turnaround for our state, with businesses working hand-in-hand with our education system to prepare workers for the jobs of the future. I am also working to ensure that communities are not left behind in the 21st Century economy. As reported by KNOE, I’m pushing the Department of Transportation to expand the ability of businesses to utilize the Ouachita River for crucial economic development activities. I also recently filed new, bipartisan legislation known as the GREATER Act, which seeks to boost rural economic development by improving federal programs designed to promote job creation.
Serving Constituents Throughout LA-5
As your Congresswoman, I am committed to ensuring that any issues you have with federal government agencies are addressed in a timely manner. Whether you need an advocate in a tax fight with the IRS, help with a passport, or assistance with securing a nomination for one of our nation’s military service academies, we are here to help. From my offices in Baton Rouge, Monroe, Hammond and Washington, D.C., we can take your calls and ensure timely assistance. My newest office in Baton Rouge, located off Jefferson Highway and serving constituents in the Capital Region, is an example of my commitment to serving all parts of Louisiana’s 5th District.
That Baton Rouge District Office is located at 7932 Wrenwood Blvd, Suite C, Baton Rouge, LA 70801. Our Baton Rouge team can be reached by calling 225-952-1390.
Defending the Second Amendment
I am a proud defender of your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Lawful gun ownership is a strong tradition in Louisiana, and gun owners should not be targeted for exercising their Second Amendment rights. That’s why I’ve co-sponsored multiple bills this Congress to protect this vital freedom. Bills I’m supporting include the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act, which protects lawful gun owners from being slapped with additional taxes and fees by liberal state and local governments. I also am a co-sponsor of the RIFLE Act, which would remove a $200 federal sales tax imposed on law-abiding gun owners who choose to purchase certain firearms and accessories, including silencers and short-barreled rifles.
Telling My Story
I recently had the opportunity to sit-down with a colleague of mine, Congresswoman Erin Houchin from Indiana, for a conversation about my journey to Congress, faith, and public service. As a single mother of two young children, my story is a testimony to the fact that any background can prepare an individual to serve in Congress, and that the Lord has a purpose and a plan for all of our lives. It's Crawfish Season!
As Louisianans, we love our crawfish! With crawfish season in its prime, many are already hosting backyard boils and enjoying this delicious Louisiana delicacy. I certainly will be, and hope you partake as well! KALB-TV recently took viewers on a behind-the-scenes look into how crawfish get from the wild to your family’s dinner plate. You can watch this segment here, and don’t forget to take advantage of this special time in the South!
