I first introduced my resolution to allow new mothers and fathers in Congress to vote remotely to begin addressing the barriers young Members and families face to serving. For months, I worked to build the bipartisan support necessary to make sure other parents aren’t forced to choose between representing their constituents on critical votes or prioritizing the well-being of their newborn. Eventually, a decisive majority of Members signed their names in support.

But this week, Speaker Johnson pulled out all the stops and killed our petition to allow new parents to vote remotely.

This move is anti-women, anti-parent, and anti-family.

Our country has changed. And so have our workplaces. We can’t keep doing things the way we did centuries ago when women weren’t allowed to vote, let alone be a Member of Congress.

I was denied the opportunity to fulfill one of the most important parts of my job because I’m a woman who chose to have a baby and couldn’t be there in person for medical reasons. That is not just wrong—it’s outrageous. It’s a slap in the face to every working parent who’s ever had to choose between their job and their family during the most vulnerable time of their child’s life.

I refuse to accept this as the norm. I am deeply disappointed by this outcome, but my fight is far from over. I’ll keep working alongside you to make our government more accessible for young families and regular people. But the truth is, the best way to do that is by flipping the House blue next year.

With that said, I’m hoping you can make a donation today to help me do my part to elect a Democratic majority next year. My Democratic colleagues and I are fully committed to modernizing Congress and focusing on the needs of regular families, but we need to win right here in CO-07 and across the country to get that important work done.
