Email from Rep. Nehls   Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington, D.C. Chairman Troy E. Nehls Holds Aviation Subcommittee Hearing on Airport Infrastructure, Safety, and Regulatory Environment As Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, I held a hearing to examine the current state of our nation's airports. The United States of America is home to over 3,200 airports, including large hub commercial service airports and small and general aviation airports. During the hearing, the witnesses and members of the Aviation Subcommittee discussed ways we can improve our nation's airport infrastructure, and how Congress can promote regulatory stability, which is critical to allow our airports to properly plan and invest in capital improvement projects to meet the needs of the ever-growing demand for air travel. Watch my opening statement from the hearing HERE and watch my questioning of the witness panel HERE. Reps. Troy E. Nehls, Madeleine Dean, Sens. John Cornyn and Cory Booker Reintroduce the Strengthening Child Exploitation Enforcement Act This week, I joined Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and Senators John Cornyn and Cory Booker in reintroducing the Strengthening Child Exploitation Enforcement Act, which would make several technical clarifications to close loopholes in current child sexual abuse criminal statutes that hamper holding perpetrators accountable. Any existing loopholes in United States federal law that allow child predators to escape justice must be closed immediately. The abuse of a child, in any form, is completely unacceptable. As a father to three daughters and a former Texas Sheriff, I’m proud to join my colleagues in reintroducing bipartisan legislation that will empower our nation’s law enforcement and our justice system to hold bad actors who abuse our children, here at home and abroad, accountable. Read more about the legislation HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass the SAVE Act We must restore trust in our election process and protect the ballot box from foreign election interference. That's exactly why the House passed H.R. 22, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This bill requires in-person proof of U.S. citizenship when individuals register to vote in federal elections. Further, it requires states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls and equips them with the tools to do so. I am a proud original cosponsor of this legislation, and I proudly voted "YES" to pass this bill. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Joins NewsNation Now with Connell McShane Watch my interview HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Witness Panel at House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement This week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement held a hearing on how sanctuary cities across the country risk the safety of their communities and harbor illegal aliens. Further, the hearing gave members of the subcommittee an opportunity to examine how Democrat officials have hindered law enforcement efforts to cooperate with federal immigration officials and target law enforcement officials for complying with federal law. As a member of the subcommittee, I discussed how distrust between law enforcement and the communities they serve begins in liberal cities across the country, like Chicago and San Francisco. I highlighted my time as Sheriff of Fort Bend County, Texas, and talked about how I worked closely with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain illegal aliens in our community. Democrat mayors of sanctuary jurisdictions have been releasing violent criminal illegal aliens into communities, putting the lives and safety of American citizens at risk. One thing is clear: Sanctuary jurisdictions don't care about their communities. They care about protecting illegal aliens. It's shameful. Watch my questioning of the witnesses HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass the No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025 This week, I proudly voted “YES” to pass H.R. 1526, the No Rogue Rulings Act (NORRA) of 2025. Across the country, radical activist judges are doing everything they can to block President Trump from fulfilling the mandate given to him by the American people. The NORRA Act of 2025 limits the power of district judges in issuing nationwide injunctions and addresses growing concerns over judicial overreach, particularly instances where individual district judges halt executive policies. By passing this legislation, my House Republican colleagues and I are standing up for the integrity of our constitutional system and upholding the checks and balances that safeguard our democracy. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes to Unlock President Trump's Agenda This week, the United States House of Representatives passed the Senate Amendment to the House Budget Resolution. I voted "YES" to pass this bill. By passing this bill, the next stage of the budget reconciliation process has been unlocked so that we can deliver on the mandate the American people gave Republicans in November. We, as Congress, must do everything we can to support President Trump's America First agenda and deliver significant wins for the American people, including historic spending cuts, border security, tax cuts for hardworking Americans, and unleashing American energy dominance. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Pays Tribute to Fort Bend County Sheriff's Deputy David Fontenot Fort Bend County Sheriff's Deputy David Fontenot was not only a dedicated law enforcement officer but also a great friend of mine. David served over 30 years in law enforcement, with 26 of those years at the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. I was honored to work alongside him. I'm saddened to say that on March 29, 2025, David passed away after a battle with cancer. This week, I spoke about him on the House Floor. I and the Fort Bend County law enforcement community will miss him dearly. Watch my speech on the House Floor HERE. This Week in Texas' 22nd District Rep. Troy E. Nehls' Fulshear District Office Hosts Service Academy Day I'm hosting a Service Academy Day on Saturday, May 31, 2025. This event would allow all TX-22 to learn how to attend one of the United States Service Academies. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must apply and meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application to be considered for an interview with the nomination review board in our office. Please note that the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. In addition to staff from my office, representatives from all five academies (U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy) and current academy cadets and midshipmen will be on hand to answer questions. Students, parents, and educators will be able to hear from and meet with representatives on a one-on-one basis to become informed about the excellent opportunities associated with attending these premier educational institutions and the careers they generate. This forum is free; however, pre-registration is required and can be found on my website HERE. It will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Rosenberg Civic Center. To apply for a U.S. Service Academy, please visit my website and complete the application. Applications are due no later than October 10, 2025, at 5 PM CST. The application can be found HERE. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at (346) 762-6600.
