BREAKING: Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has just announced that she’s NOT running for reelection in 2026.
Let’s talk about great news before the weekend.
Iowa has been under Republican leadership for the past decade, and where has it got us? Ranking 49th in economic growth, 48th in personal income growth, and 50th in gubernatorial popularity.
Reynolds didn’t need our help with that last one. That’s what happens when you grant major tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy, use hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on private school vouchers, and ignore the quality of life decline for the rural areas of our state.
Reynolds has seen all of our momentum for change this year, and rather than take accountability, she’s deciding to exit the arena. I hear from lots of frustrated Iowans about Reynolds’ rap sheet, and how disastrous her policies have been for Iowa’s working families. Instead of getting stuck in that bad news, however, I think it’s more important to focus on our future.
In 2026, Iowa voters will have the opportunity to hold Republicans accountable for taking our state in the wrong direction. It’s time to vote for a Governor who will put Iowans to work, lower costs and support our rural areas.
Multiple Republican candidates are no doubt already gearing up to take this unpopular governor’s spot. We need to be prepared to lift up Democratic candidates who will actually address Iowan families' needs and get ready to respond to the Republicans’ smear campaigns that we know will be coming.
Will you chip in a $25 donation to our Rapid Response Fund today to support the Iowa Democratic Party in helping elect a Governor who will deliver for all Iowans?
Onward,
Rita
