John,
If a policy saves lives and money, you’d think any responsible leader would want to keep it around, right?
Not Donald Trump.
The Trump administration is canceling FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program, a bipartisan grant initiative that’s helped states and communities prepare for floods, tornadoes, wildfires, and other natural disasters.
Here’s the kicker, John: for all the MAGA talk about cutting costs and fiscal responsibility, this might be one of the least responsible decisions they’ve made. For every $1 spent through BRIC to prepare for disasters, taxpayers save $6 on the backend in disaster response and recovery.
$750 million was planned for BRIC this year, but now it’s gone. In other words, that’s $4.5 billion that our communities will have to pay in disaster recovery instead. Killing this program now won’t save costs — it’ll increase them.
This is what happens when climate denial, cruelty, and bad math meet public policy. SEEC members know how to multiply by six. They are leaders who want to protect people before disaster hits, not just show up for the photo op after.
John, will you chip in to help us fight back against these irresponsible and cruel policy changes? We can’t afford to pick up the pieces after the next disaster. [[link removed]]

Trump and his allies may be comfortable playing politics with disaster. We’re not.
