Dear john,

Congress will be in recess for the next two weeks, but I want to share three actions that I took before heading back to Georgia:

  • Last Friday, I joined my colleagues Reps. Gwen Moore (WI-04) and Debbie Dingell (MI-06) in pushing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy for answers explaining the Administration's decision to fire Shawndell Dawson, the Director of the Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services, as well as thousands of federal employees whose work focuses on preventing gender-based violence and informing violence prevention efforts. The American people deserve answers, and I will continue to advocate for reinstatement of those responsible for national efforts to address domestic and sexual violence. • In the previous Congress, I introduced the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion (GOSAFE) Act, common-sense legislation designed to protect communities from gun violence while safeguarding Americans' constitutional right to own a firearm for legitimate self-defense, hunting, and sporting. While this legislation did not move in the 118th Congress, I reintroduced this bill again on Wednesday. I came to Congress because of a promise to take action in honor of victims of gun violence like my son Jordan--I intend to follow through on that promise. To learn more about the GOSAFE Act, read my press release

  • I also joined a bipartisan group of colleagues in reintroducing our Adult Education Workforce Opportunity and Reskilling for Knowledge and Success (WORKS) Act. 43 million American adults stand to benefit from literacy programs and 62.7 million are in need numeracy programs. The Adult Education WORKS Act will ensure that essential skills will be taught to adult learners nationwide. To learn more about this bipartisan legislation, click here.

This week, I was honored to convene my second Town Hall of the year to discuss updates on my work during the first three months of the 119th Congress. Joining me was Rob Shriver, former Acting Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and current Managing Director of Democracy Forward's Civil Service Strong Initiative. Thanks to the strong engagement of people just like you, I was able to speak with 14,000 of our friends and neighbors across the district. I want every person who tuned in and asked questions to know how grateful I am for their civic engagement--it is through conversations like Wednesday night that we will continue to support each other and stay informed on the most pressing issues of the day.

As I prepare for the upcoming District Work Period, I look forward to the opportunity to connect with so many local stakeholders and constituents. One of the most enjoyable parts of my job here at home is engaging and uplifting our young people. For high school students, the deadline for my 2025 Congressional Art Competition is fast approaching. Any student who wishes to compete in this year's competition must complete the online registration by Monday, April 21st. For more information and to complete your digital entry form, please visit my website at mcbath.house.gov/art-competition. Best of luck to all students!

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. It is my honor to serve our community in Congress. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact my office at (470) 773-6330 or visit mcbath.house.gov.

Sincerely,
