John,
After months of following public health guidelines to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, the country is slowly starting to reopen. We’re even seeing signs that some jobs are being added back into the economy.
While these are welcome developments, we still have a ways to go. This is not a choice between protecting lives and protecting livelihoods. We can and should do both -- especially in suburban and rural communities that face different risk factors than denser urban areas.
Getting people back to work and helping local businesses and public facilities reopen is critical. But how we do it also matters. That includes not just opening doors and getting information out to folks, but practicing the guidelines that have been put in place by local officials to keep workers, customers, frontline health providers, and vulnerable populations safe.
CA-04 is making great progress on these measures because of the strength and resilience of its people.

The coronavirus is still here and has tragically taken more than 100,000 American lives. But I am confident that if we all continue to work together, we can emerge from this period even stronger than before.
Thanks for all you’ve done to care for each other and the community we love.
