Thoughtful, compassionate journalism
What happened to the word compassion? You won’t hear it coming out of Washington these days. It’s also not on the lips of of a large segment of Christians who are enthused about the White House shuttering USAID and ending humanitarian aid to 177 countries around the world. The word is simply gone. It disappeared overnight. All kinds of people now see compassion as a term for national weakness.
Not at The Christian Century! Compassion is all over our pages, because we attach ourselves to a faith that finds care for other people indispensable to who we are. You don’t build a kinder and better world without compassion. You also don’t have thoughtful journalism if the idea of caring for others doesn’t enter your content.
If this commitment to the welfare of others finds any home in your heart, I hope you’ll support the Century financially. We’re a non-profit journalistic ministry, and without supportive friends like you, we don’t exist. I hold no illusion that our print and online content will magically undo the heartless actions emanating from DOGE. But I am convinced that growing the hearts and minds of people, one at a time, is how communities deepen their commitment and love for others.
Will you make a gift today that puts you among the thoughtful supporters of our work? I hope you will.
Grateful to you,
Peter W. Marty, Editor/Publisher
