The Black School Food Working Group is hosting a School Food Infrastructure Fund Information Session on
April 15, 2025, between 12:00 PM and 1:30pm EST via ZOOM to provide Black-led community organizations across Canada with insights into SFIF funding opportunities.

If you are a non-profit organization that produces, processes, stores, and/or distributes food for school food programs, you will likely be eligible to apply for infrastructure funding.

Each organization has a different deadline for submitting applications, and some organizations have a particular geographic focus so you will want to review the list to see which organization/s would be the best fit for your application (you can apply to as many organizations as you would like though you can not use funding from more than one funder for the same purchase).

** About the Black School Food Working Group
------------------------------------------------------------

The Black School Food Working Group, a new initiative hosted by the Coalition for Healthy School Food, brings together Black-led community organizations working in school food. Our mission is to amplify the experiences, interests, voices, and policy recommendations of the Black School Food movement.

A key concern among Black-led organizations has been the difficulty in accessing grant funding. At our meetings members expressed interest in an information session to help them better understand SFIF grant opportunities.

On April 9, Farm to Cafeteria Canada (F2CC) held their F2CC's School Food Infrastructure Fund grant info session. They are one of ten Initial Recipient Organizations by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) to distribute $1.1M of the School Food Infrastructure Fund (SFIF) to eligible community organizations across Canada.

** SFIF Information Session: A Q&A with the Atlantic School Food Coalition

The Atlantic School Food Coalition (a group composed of Food First NL, Food for All NB, Nourish Nova Scotia and PEI Home and School Federation) are hosting an informative Q&A session on April 14, 2025, between 12:00 PM and 1:00 pm AST via ZOOM. This webinar allows potential applicants of the Atlantic SFIF to ask their questions and receive support to navigate the application criteria for this grant. [link removed] can apply?

Are you a non-profit organization involved in producing, processing, storing, distributing or serving food in a school food program? Could your program benefit from additional infrastructure or equipment? Do you need infrastructure or equipment to help grow your program?

The Atlantic School Food Infrastructure Fund is here to help you expand your program. This supports a wide range of projects like kitchen equipment, distribution vehicles, greenhouses and other growing spaces, just to name a few.

Priority will be given to projects that support low-income, Black and Indigenous students.

Important details
- Please note that schools are not eligible to apply for this funding themselves but are encouraged to work with a non-profit partner.

- Schools have/will receive infrastructure funding from the provincial government and from the bi-lateral agreement ([link removed]) that NS signed with the federal government.

One question that has come up is: can we apply to multiple SFIF applications?

Here is an answer from the
FAQ on the Atlantic School Food Coalition’s site ([link removed]) that may be helpful:

Q: Can we apply to other organizations that are distributing SFIF funds?

A: Yes, as long as your project fits their geographic area and focus. You can find a list of organizations distributing the SFIF
here. ([link removed]) You may use SFIF funds from multiple sources towards a single larger project, but you cannot receive funding twice for the same budget item.

Le Black School Food Working Group (Groupe de travail sur l'alimentation scolaire des communautés noires), une nouvelle initiative hébergée par la Coalition pour une alimentation scolaire saine, regroupe des organisations communautaires dirigées par des personnes des communautés noires travaillant dans le domaine de l’alimentation scolaire.

Le 9 avril dernier, De la ferme à la cafétéria Canada a organisé une séance d’information virtuelle sur le Fonds pour l'infrastructure alimentaire scolaire. Ils font partie des dix bénéficiaires initiaux sélectionnés par Agriculture et Agroalimentaire Canada (AAC) pour distribuer 1,1 million de dollars du Fonds pour l’infrastructure alimentation scolaire (FIAS) aux organisations communautaires éligibles au Canada.

Le Fonds pour l’infrastructure alimentaire scolaire de l'Atlantique (FIAS) est là pour vous aider à développer votre programme. Le programme soutient une variété de projets, tels que l'équipement de cuisine, les transports de distribution, les serres et les espaces de culture.

Les projets soutenant les étudiants à faible revenu, les communautés noires et les communautés autochtones auront la priorité.

Les informations additionnelles

- Veuillez noter que les écoles ne sont pas éligibles pour postuler directement, mais elles peuvent collaborer avec des organisations à but non lucratif.

- Les écoles dans les régions ont déjà reçu un financement dédié à l’infrastructure dans le cadre des accords provinciaux et fédéraux.

R : Oui, tant que votre projet correspond à leur zone géographique et à leur domaine d'intervention. Vous pouvez trouver une liste des organisations distribuant les fonds du FIAS ici ([link removed]) . Vous pouvez utiliser des fonds du FIAS provenant de différentes sources pour un seul projet plus important, mais vous ne pouvez pas recevoir de financement deux fois pour la même ligne budgétaire.
