Legislative Update
Dear Neighbors,
It’s been another busy week at the Capitol, and I wanted to take a moment to share an important update on an issue that affects our entire education system: teacher pensions.
On Tuesday, Rep. Danny Nadeau introduced two bills that offer real solutions for our educators—many of whom have spent their careers teaching the next generation.

*House File 2318* would allow teachers to retire at age 62 with 30 years of service "without" facing a reduction in their benefits. The cost of this plan is about $77 million per year and would be covered by a modest 1% increase in employer contributions.
*
*House File 2329* expands the "Special Early Retirement" option, allowing teachers to retire at age 60 with 30 years of service. This bill would cost around $33 million annually and includes a three-year delay on cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) to help manage expenses responsibly.
Both proposals were laid over for further consideration, meaning they’re still in the mix as we shape final pension legislation this session.
Let me be clear: House Republicans will not stand by and let teacher pensions be cut. We know how hard our educators work and how critical they are to the success of our communities. This is about keeping our promises, supporting our schools, and showing teachers the respect they deserve for a lifetime of service.
We’re committed to finding fiscally responsible ways to support these changes, while making sure Minnesota remains a great place to live, work, and educate our children.
