John,
Tax Day is fast approaching. And now there’s a new, free, and easy way to file your taxes.
If your taxes are relatively straightforward and you live in one of the following states that opted to participate, you may be eligible to use Direct File this tax filing season: Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Before Direct File, most taxpayers were using paid online platforms like TurboTax and H&R Block, spending hundreds of dollars and hours of their time to file their taxes online.
Now, tens of millions of taxpayers are eligible to use this free, online tax filing system. In most cases it takes less than an hour and it allows you to claim tax credits that you may be eligible for such as the Child Tax Credit or the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Already filed or want to help others file for free too? Spread the word by forwarding this email to family and friends.
Last year, during Direct File’s pilot program, taxpayers in the 12 participating states received more than $90 million in refunds and saved an estimated $5.6 million in tax preparation fees.1
If Direct File were to be expanded to taxpayers in all 50 states next year, it would save taxpayers an estimated $11 billion annually in filing fees and time costs.2
