Dear Friends,
This week, Republicans passed their destructive budget reconciliation that instructs the Energy and Commerce Committee to cut Medicaid by $880 billion. Every Democrat voted against this budget, and I will continue to fight against their plan in committee.
I'm continuing to bring in-person town halls throughout the Second District. Next Wednesday, I'll be in Pontiac to hear from YOU and answer your questions. You can RSVP here.
Come to My Town Hall

On Wednesday, I'm hosting an in-person town hall in Pontiac. Republican leadership told their Members not to host any town halls -- so I'm going right to the border of my district to listen to everyone's concerns. Come attend my town hall to ask your questions, share your concerns, and hear what I'm doing to represent you in DC.
I'm expecting a lot of people to attend, so please RSVP ahead of time for the location and to pre-submit a question.
My Visit to the Department of Health & Human Services
On Wednesday, I marched to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with my colleagues on the Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee to demand answers about recent layoffs and the agency’s restructuring plans.
We waited in the lobby for half an hour and received no response from RFK Jr. and his office. RFK Jr. followed orders from Elon Musk to fire 10,000 HHS employees, eliminated half of the regional offices — including the one in Chicago that serves the Midwest — and now refuses to answer questions.
The DOGE-led layoffs to the HHS will have dangerous repercussions to our country's health.
House Republicans Pass Destructive Budget
In a betrayal to the middle class, House Republicans passed a budget reconciliation on Thursday that will push the largest cuts to Medicaid and food assistance in U.S. history.
The budget slashes Medicaid by $880 billion, putting health care at risk for nearly half of the constituents in the Second District. It also cuts food assistance by $230 billion, potentially leaving almost 190,000 people in the district without reliable access to meals.
You can read my full statement on the budget here.
If you would like to share your thoughts with me, feel free to visit my website. You can also keep in touch through Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and BlueSky.
Sincerely,
Robin L. Kelly Member of Congress
