Friend,
Hundreds of people across Florida turned out for the State Parks LoveFests last weekend in support of keeping state parks wild. That pressure — and our communication with lawmakers — worked. This Tuesday, a good amendment filed by state Rep. John Snyder passed 22-0 in committee. It addresses our concerns about loopholes that would have left state parks vulnerable to development in HB 209. This win is a credit to all of you who spoke out and made your voices heard.
But the work isn’t over. Now the bill must advance in the Senate. Sen. Gayle Harrell is the sponsor of the companion bill, SB 80.
Friends of the Everglades has been tracking this bill closely and was in Tallahassee this week pushing for stronger language to ensure the best possible protection for these beloved spaces. We need YOU to help us keep the pressure on.
Join us April 15 to learn all about it and ask questions during a live update with Friends of the Everglades Executive Director Eve Samples and Policy Director Gil Smart, who also serves as Executive Director of VoteWater.
This conversation will be streamed directly to our Facebook, Instagram and Youtube channel from 12-1 p.m.
