In 2024, my election was the final House race in the country to be called — and by the narrowest possible margin — we flipped the seat from red-to-blue and delivered a win for the Central Valley.
We did this despite Donald Trump winning my district by over 5 points. This win wasn’t a lucky fluke or accident. We worked around the clock to organize and share our vision with undecided and eventual split ticket voters.
We know we have a lot of work ahead of us in 2026. But I know if we can launch our organizing and outreach programs early, our message will resonate. Do you see the map above showing our 2024 election results? It doesn’t get much closer than that.
The margin of just 187 votes has made a world of difference. They are why I’ve been able to hit the ground running:
1️⃣ Pushing back against Republican plans to cut Medicaid coverage to pay for billionaire tax cuts. This includes proposing an amendment to a House budget resolution to safeguard Medicaid from significant funding reductions.
2️⃣ Advocating for a Farm Bill that supports agricultural production and development.
3️⃣ Working on the Agriculture Committee to demand common-sense responses to the bird flu and the impact it’s having on our farmers and consumers alike.
These are real actions that help real people, John. But they were only possible because we won — and by the narrowest margin.
If we had started organizing a little later, not invested quite as heavily into outreach, we might’ve come up short in 2024. And there’s a possibility we could slip behind in 2026. I’ve already been named a “frontline” Member, and our district is considered to be a pure toss up.
