“Israel is currently debating a momentous and historic decision to extend sovereignty over 30 percent of the Judea and Samaria, as well as the Jordan Valley, which will give Israel defensible borders, and is in keeping with the Trump Vision for Peace and Prosperity. This decision, however, is fraught with complexities.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi recently said on Thursday, June 4th, “Unilateral annexation puts the future at risk, and undermines US national security interests and decades bipartisan policy.” And, on Thursday May 19th, 19 Senators led by Senator Chris Van Hollen (democrat, Maryland, Chris Murphy, (democrat, Connecticut), and Tim Kaine, (democrat, Virginia), sent a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu and Alternative Prime Minister Benny Gantz, saying that such a move would mark a dramatic reversal of shared understandings between the United States, Israel and the Palestinians.”

There is a great deal at stake in this issue. Israel may well have the international legal right and the moral authority to go forward with this historic move. However, knowing that there is an election coming up in 5 months, and that there is a good possibility that the democrats will gain control of the White House, the Senate as well as the House of Representatives, will she risk being alone in the community of nations? Will America still stand by Israel in the United Nations, or does the Jewish state risk being sanctioned and isolated by this historic move?
