Friend,
We must defend funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This program is vital to our region and our nation, and I will do everything in my power to save it from Republican cuts.
Freshwater is life, friend, and the Great Lakes are the largest body of freshwater on Earth.

They support a $7 billion fishery and a $16 billion boating industry and provide drinking water for 40 million people. They sustain ecosystems across the Midwest and the countless wildlife species that call these places home.
The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is crucial to protecting this freshwater Kingdom, which holds 20% of the freshwater on Earth.
Thanks to GLRI, we've cleaned up toxic pollution in places like the Black River in Lorain, which is now one of the best walleye fishing areas in all of Lake Erie.
We're working to mitigate harmful algae blooms, like the one that shut off drinking water in Ohio and Michigan in 2014. And GLRI is leading the fight to prevent the spread of invasive carp, which would be disastrous for our Great Lakes economy and ecosystem.
Friend, this funding is critical for our state and our region. That's why it's supported by over 80% of Midwesterners and regularly passes with bipartisan support.
I'm proud to co-sponsor the GLRI Act of 2025, and I'll never stop fighting for our Great Lakes communities. Thank you for standing with me, friend.
