We need you to speak up for public school students in North Carolina, John. The Trump Administration is attempting to unconstitutionally shut down the Department of Education, and if they succeed, more than one million students attending public schools in North Carolina will feel the pain. And the students who are most in need — kids with disabilities or from low-income families — would be the hardest hit. Over $1 billion in annual funding to North Carolina’s public schools could be at risk if the Department of Education is eliminated. These funds support thousands of staff positions across our state’s public schools. They fund programs supporting students in poverty or those who need special education services. This is a crisis. John, cutting staff and slashing funds is exactly the opposite of what North Carolina public schools need. We should be increasing funding for schools so they can hire and retain qualified teachers and give every child the resources they need to succeed.
