Meanwhile, Trump is using the threat of tariffs to push for more U.S. fossil fuel exports — especially fracked gas. If Congress doesn’t act now, the damage could be even worse.

Yesterday, under increasing pressure, Trump surprised his own advisors by announcing a 90-day pause on his across-the-board tariffs. However, he continues to escalate a trade war with China, which has announced an 84% tariff on US imports.

Since taking office, Trump has made a series of erratic and arbitrary announcements about tariffs — first imposing, then revoking, and then imposing again. This chaos is damaging to the economy and will be used by big corporations to increase consumer prices.

While the president has a lot of power over tariff policy, Congress can take action to rescind these tariffs. It’s clear that Trump can’t be trusted to protect our economy or our families.
