John,
Badar Khan Suri. Rumeysa Ozturk. Mahmoud Khalil.
What do they all have in common? They were all arrested, kidnapped, and transported to remote detention centers in Louisiana and Texas.
They are separated from their friends, families, and legal representation. They are living in deplorable conditions and are completely isolated from all that they know.
Besides the psychological punishment that this amounts to for a person, there’s an even more nefarious reason that the Trump administration is doing this: "forum shopping." This is a strategy lawyers for the detained say the government is using to have these deportation cases heard before more conservative courts.
If these cases are heard by a federal court in Louisiana, any appeals would be heard by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, widely considered the most conservative in the country.
These are CLEAR acts of political retaliation designed to instill fear, suppress activism, and attack our constitutional right to protest. We need to fight back—now.
The Trump administration is literally attempting to deport immigrants—and in some cases even naturalized citizens—for exercising their right to peacefully protest. This is dangerous, and it has to stop.
Join us and send a letter to your representatives now: Free Badar Khan Suri, Rumeysa Ozturk, and Mahmoud Khalil. Stop the arrests. Stop the kidnappings. We’re not going to stop blowing up their inboxes until they ACT on behalf of Badar, Rumeysa, and Mahmoud and work to release ALL political prisoners.
In solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
