My opponent, Gregory Meeks, decided not to attend.

Friends,

Yesterday was the debate with my opponent Gregory Meeks,

and true to his brand, he decided not to attend. Despite the

fact that our city is in lockdown, 40 million people are

unemployed and thousands are protesting police violence,

Meeks didn't think discussing these issues was a priority.

Rep. Meeks didn't show up, but I did. I showed up because I

believe my community deserves to know how I will fight for them.

Meeks has been in office for 22 years and him not coming to

the debate shows that he is comfortable in his position and

expects everyone to vote for him. Meeks undervalues our

community and takes our votes for granted. He believes, no

matter what, he will win. That's what makes him complicit in the

struggle we face in NY-5.

That is going to change on June 23rd.

Last night’s debate showed the difference between myself and

him, and between us and the political establishment. We

fight for our communities no matter what. The

establishment remains silent and complicit. The only thing

Meeks is consistent with is accepting money from groups like

Blackstone and KKR.

The same republican groups he claims to fight.

Now is the time to get up and fight for our community. We have

been ignored for too long and it's time that the people have a

candidate that truly represents them. The community deserved

a fair debate and it's because of Gregory Meeks that we did

not get one.

As the Congressman from NY-5, I will always show up for our

community. It’s easy to say that you stand for something.

But, it’s an entirely different thing to go out and fight for what's

right. That's who I am, and who I will always be.

In 15 days, I will give this district the representation it

deserves.
