SEEC Co-Chair Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20), Vice Chair Reps. Chellie Pingree (ME-01), Sean Casten (IL-06), and Mike Levin (CA-49) gathered top Congressional environmental advocates, including Senators Whitehouse, Markey, Schatz, and Blumenthal, to raise the flag about EPA Administrator Zeldin’s dereliction of duty as our nation’s top environmental steward.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has announced that he is “driving a dagger straight into the heart of the climate change religion.” Imagine equating decades of scientific research to a religion!
The Trump administration has been one characterized by a wanton disregard for basic reality: dismantling democratic norms, destroying our public health infrastructure, and denying man-made climate change.
In his quixotic crusade against the “climate change religion,” Lee Zeldin is trying to roll back 31 regulations that protect our clean air and water. Included in this list is the landmark 2009 Endangerment Finding, which found that climate-changing pollutants are dangerous to Americans’ well-being, health, and wallets and has been the legal standard for nearly 20 years.
So, why would the Trump administration do this? Simply put: they are bought and paid for by fossil fuel corporations and billionaires.
Trump and his lackeys will always care more about lining their pockets than protecting the American people. We need leaders who will stand up to the special interests, not grovel before them on hand and knee.
