John: Another 500,000 Georgians are at risk of having their voter registration “purged” this summer.
What happens? Partisan election officials conduct mass registered voter removals, as required by recent Georgia voter suppression laws -- laws that include limits on mail-in ballots, the criminalization of giving out water or food to voters waiting in line, and so much more.
These purges disenfranchise legitimate eligible voters who haven’t moved or had other changes to their voter registration status. Multiple stories written by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in recent years have highlighted wrongfully purged voters and show the evidence clearly.
This comes after groups based outside of Georgia brought mass challenges against almost 400,000 Georgia voters in recent election cycles. And that doesn't include the 92,000 additional challenges brought in Georgia by amateur "voter fraud hunters" who believe the lies peddled by partisan activists trying to shake our faith in our elections and guarantee their party wins elections.
Voter suppression is real, John, both in Georgia and across the country. Help us push back on these cynical purges and voter challenges with $25 or whatever you can today to protect the right to vote nationwide >>
