Rep. Summer Lee’s bill brings us closer to a democracy of, by, and for the people.
John,
For 15 years, super PACs have given billionaires, corporations, and other wealthy interests a backdoor to pour unlimited money into our elections. These unlimited contributions to super PACs, often totaling millions of dollars during federal elections, present direct and serious threats of corruption and the appearance of corruption in the political process. Further, super PACs have the power to shape elections, and candidates’ ability to direct massive contributions to super PACs can make or break campaigns.
Representative Summer Lee has introduced landmark legislation that would place a $5,000 per calendar year limit on contributions to super PACs in federal elections, effectively abolishing them. We worked closely with Representative Lee’s office in drafting this legislation. By passing it, we bring ourselves one step closer to a democracy of, by, and for the people.
