Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well! Listed below are a few of my upcoming events, including my Scam Jam next Thursday, a legislative update, information on taxes, scholarships and PHEAA, what I’ve been up to, and community events! As always, I hope you find the information below informative and useful. | Last Friday, I attended Mission Kids groundbreaking ceremony for their new Child Advocacy Center and Regional Training Facility in Plymouth Meeting. This facility will provide Mission Kids with the necessary space to help children and youth who were affected by abuse, expanding their reach and resources. What Mission Kids is able to accomplish for the children in our communities is truly remarkable. The support they offer to survivors of child abuse is invaluable, including methods of healing that help reduce re-traumatization, advocating on their behalf, pursuing justice, and, most importantly, ensuring children have the chance to be a kid again. | Yesterday in the Pennsylvania House, I was proud to vote along with my colleagues to pass House Bill 308 (Rep. Harkins), extending OSHA protections to public workers in Pennsylvania, and HB 411 (Rep. Malagari), providing a COLA adjustment to the SERS and PSERS. HB 308, which passed 111-92, would require the Dept. Of Labor & Industry to create safe standards by developing effective regulations and keep workplaces hazard free through common protections while reporting injuries and informing employees of risks. HB 411, which passed 131-72, would provide a cost-of-living (COLA) adjustment to the State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) and Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) for the upcoming fiscal year while establishing a recurring COLA allowing pensions to keep up with the rate of inflation. The bills now move to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration and passage. | Reminder!
