I joined the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) in 2005 as a Claims Representative and worked my way into the Supervisor of Claims, and then Director of Veteran Services. Working closely with the leadership, I helped maintain an already stellar state agency and sought to advance the work environment and mission of MDVA. My position requires a good amount of work with our partners such as the Minnesota Association of County Veteran Service Officers, federal VA partners including the Veteran Benefits Administration, Veterans Health Administration, the Board of Veteran Appeals and Office of General Council. My position requires a serious review and approval process for all official representatives approved to be MDVA power of attorney for federal VA purposes.
My colleagues in Veteran Services work tirelessly to represent Minnesota Veterans and families, creating pathways to the many benefits valuable to our clientele. The benefits that our Veterans have earned are life changing, both for our clients and for the employees who work on their cases. Imagine helping a family by winning a case you have worked on for years. There is great joy and satisfaction in helping people out of some of life’s most difficult situations! We help Veterans and their families save their homes, gain access to health care and improve their lives overall. To be able to do this each day is a dream come true for me.
Many leaders at MDVA are long-term employees with a vested interest in benefiting Minnesotans every day. Our leadership is tested and true, our staff are dedicated and passionate and we are at the leading edge of delivering services in a modern and highly proficient manner.
