John,
After canceling a vote last night on their budget resolution due to GOP holdouts, stalling their push for massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP to pay for more tax breaks for the wealthy, House Republicans are wasting no time in going after our right to vote.
Today, they’ll vote on the mis-named Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE Act―a voter suppression bill that will make it more difficult for hundreds of millions of eligible voters to participate in our democracy.
There’s no time to lose. Click here to send a message to your representative now and urge them to vote against the anti-democratic SAVE Act today.

The SAVE Act would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote or updating your voter registration. The problem is that millions of Americans don’t have easy access to these documents.
Sixty-nine million women in the U.S. don’t have a birth certificate with their legal name on it.1 And less than half of Americans have a passport.2 Getting or replacing these documents costs money, a new kind of “poll tax” blocking citizens with low incomes from voting.
Forcing Americans to provide documentary proof of citizenship to register or update their registration disproportionately affects seniors, naturalized citizens, low-income individuals, rural voters, and women who have changed their names due to marriage.
The SAVE Act would effectively eliminate online voter registration and make it impossible to register by mail, further limiting access to the ballot box, especially for those in remote or underserved areas and for people with disabilities.
In addition to the disproportionate impact on low-income voters and others, this bill would criminalize or render ineffective the work of countless civic organizations and nonprofits that help eligible voters register, further suppressing participation in our democracy.
The SAVE Act also paves the way for sweeping voter roll purges based on outdated or incorrect data, putting millions of legally registered voters at risk of losing their right to vote.
The right to vote is a fundamental pillar of our democracy, and Congress must take action to protect it—not erect new barriers. Take action now and demand Congress vote NO on the SAVE Act!
Thank you for taking action to oppose this dangerous legislation and stand with millions of Americans in defending our right to vote.
