The Brazilian authorities have still not completed the legal process to protect the uncontacted Kawahiva people's territory, even though their existence was officially confirmed 26 years ago.

The Kawahiva are in a highly precarious situation – not only are loggers queuing up to exploit the rich resources of the Kawahiva's rainforest, but the state government is planning to pave a road which passes just 3 kilometers from their territory.

The Indigenous peoples in this area have already faced terrible violence. A long history of invasions has meant that many have been murdered in genocidal attacks, or died of diseases brought in by loggers and ranchers. The remaining Kawahiva are the survivors of these atrocities. Please, Jack, act now to support them – tell the authorities to finally finish the job of protecting their lands once and for all.

The Brazilian Indigenous rights agency FUNAI pledged to physically mark out the territory on the ground this year, a crucial step in its protection, but they haven’t yet started the process. This delay isn't just illegal, it's imperilling the very survival of the last of the Kawhiva.
