New Congressional Maps Before 2026? WILL Weighs In.

WILL released a short memorandum summarizing some of the legal history surrounding Wisconsin’s current congressional district maps along with analysis of legal issues related to the ongoing calls for the Wisconsin Supreme Court to redraw those maps before the next census and even before the next midterm election.

WILL Deputy Counsel, Lucas Vebber, stated, “The current congressional maps—proposed by Governor Evers and adopted by the Court in 2022—are constitutional and comply with all applicable state and federal laws. While it was an effective talking point for campaigns to motivate donors and voters during the election, now reality has set in. Any attempt to redraw those district maps before the next census is futile and could easily violate the United States Constitution.”

WILL Defends the Rights of Milwaukee Parents in New Federal Complaint

WILL filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) against the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) for its secret gender transition policy.

MPS’ current policy allows school staff to create a “Gender Support Plan” and “Gender Communication Plan” for a minor student without notifying the parents, and then to hide those plans from the student’s record to prevent the parents from accessing them. This policy directly violates the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA). To its credit, the Trump Administration has prioritized enforcing these federal laws. Accordingly, our complaint urges DOE to open an investigation and obtain compliance with federal law, or, if necessary, rescind federal funding.

WILL Deputy Counsel, Luke Berg, stated, “Parents have the right and solemn responsibility to raise their own children. Federal law recognizes the parental role, yet school districts around the country have been flouting parental rights. With a new administration that supports parents, we hope that these secret transition policies can be eliminated once and for all.”

Wisconsin Dairy Farmer Takes Equality Fight to USDA

WILL, representing a Wisconsin dairy farmer, issued a warning to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) over several race-based programs that continue to hurt farmers every day.

These programs, which violate both the U.S. Constitution and President Trump’s executive orders signed earlier this year, resemble those that were successfully challenged in court by WILL and other organizations under the Biden Administration. If not corrected within sixty days, a federal lawsuit will be filed on Mr. Faust’s behalf against the Trump Administration.

WILL Client, Adam Faust, stated, “USDA offers important resources for dairy farmers, including margin coverage, loan guarantees, and grants. But it is outrageous that some farmers get a better deal based on race. I am hopeful the Trump Administration will change course and fix these discriminatory programs.”
