Skagit County Seeks Applicants for Housing Authority of Skagit County Board
The Skagit Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants to serve on the board of the Housing Authority of Skagit County (HASC). The search for a new board member comes in response to the resignation of board member Daniel Valdez, on April 7th. Mr. Valdez served two years of his original five-year term, and was named chair of the board by his peers shortly after his appointment by the County in 2023.
HASC is a taxpayer-funded public agency that administers federal Housing Choice Vouchers and develops and preserves housing for low-income Skagitonians. Its board is responsible for oversight of programs that are critical to the region’s ability to house working families, seniors on fixed incomes, veterans, and people with disabilities. More information about the Housing Authority of Skagit County is available at: http://www.skagitcountyha.org/
Residents of Skagit County interested in serving on the HASC Board are encouraged to apply. Given the vital nature of HASC’s programs and services, the Skagit County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants with prior board experience and an understanding of the requirements for transparency and accountability for public entities.
The five HASC commission members serve staggered five-year terms. The individual selected to fill the position on the HASC Board will serve the remainder of the open term, which expires on December 9, 2028.
Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to review the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Public Housing Authority (PHA) trainings for board members.
