“The people in Syria are destroyed from war.” Maryam, a 21-year-old woman from Homs in western Syria, told UNFPA. “There has been no year that has been okay for us. My generation has suffered a lot.”
Young people like Maryam have spent their entire lives surrounded by war. What they want is simple: peace, safety, and a chance to heal.
For the past two years, Maryam has been visiting a UNFPA-supported youth center — one of the few safe spaces left for young people in Syria.
“It has been a very supportive place; I feel like it's my second home. The trainers and teachers make us feel that maybe things will get better.” Maryam told us.
After 14 years of conflict, women, girls, and young people who have only known war deserve peace and a chance to recover their lives. They deserve a secure future without war — one where their talents, dreams, and futures aren’t shrouded by ceaseless violence.
But a surge in violent attacks in Syria has led to a wave of death, destruction, and displacement. Harrowing reports of attacks on hospitals, patients, doctors, and even entire families have come out, painting a picture of war that’s become a reality for so many.
Through it all, UNFPA is working every day to deliver lifesaving care. We’re restoring health and protection services, opening safe spaces, and supporting young people’s mental well-being — fostering hope for the future of their country. By supporting the well-being of the next generation, UNFPA is empowering Syrian youth to raise their voices and dream of a better future.
Through every crisis, UNFPA is there for women, girls, mothers, and newborns — and that’s only possible because of people like you. When you give, you’re not just helping — you’re giving the gift of health and life. Your generosity delivers crucial healthcare, mental health services, supplies, and more to those who need it most.
You have the power to make a difference. Every dollar you give fuels vital support services for women and girls living through war and humanitarian crises in Syria and across the globe. Will you make a donation today to deliver care when and where it’s needed most?
Thank you for your compassion and support. We will continue to update you as this crisis unfolds.
