Last week we celebrated Transgender Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to honoring the victories, accomplishments, and lives of trans and nonbinary people.
It's also a day to raise awareness of the discrimination, barriers, and obstacles to health care that these communities face. While the observance has passed, today is as good a day as any to recommit ourselves to protecting rights, dignity, and access to care for all.
The effort to protect equitable health care, like gender-affirming care, has never felt more important, especially for trans and nonbinary people across the country. Lawmakers and judges across the country are pushing laws that would prevent thousands of people from accessing the care they need.
The organizations below provide direct services to LGBTQ+ people, advocate for change, and show the kind of courage we need in this moment:
As the rights to self-expression of gender identity and to access medically necessary health care are being stripped away, Planned Parenthood is also committing to providing and expanding access to care for trans and nonbinary people, including gender-affirming care, every single day.
Across the country, Planned Parenthood health centers are providing hormone therapy, social transition support, and more to trans and nonbinary people.
Planned Parenthood health centers are incredibly proud to provide safe and welcoming spaces for anyone.
Providers will never stop working to provide this care for anyone who comes looking for the health care they need to make their own decisions for their bodies.
Planned Parenthood stands with and for trans and nonbinary people everywhere — because gender-affirming care is health care.
