Pumpkin and Spice were rescued from a shelter without humane policies and programs, where their lives were at risk. But thanks to donor support, Alley Cat Allies stepped in to save them from this dangerous situation and provide them veterinary care.

Kittens like Pumpkin and Spice are at risk in shelters that do not have humane programs to ensure humane outcomes for cats and kittens. The danger doubles for neonatal kittens—or kittens under four weeks of age—who require round-the-clock care. If prematurely taken from their mother, who is their best possible caregiver, and impounded in shelters without the right knowledge and policies, young kittens could even be killed.
