My name is Kat Abughazaleh and just a few weeks ago, I launched my progressive campaign for Congress!

When I’m elected I’ll be the first Palestinian-American woman elected to represent Illinois in the House of Representatives and only the second Palestinian woman ever to serve in Congress.

There are a lot of reasons why I’m running but one of the most important reasons is that Palestinians like me have been forgotten by our leaders. Members of Congress bend over backwards to ingratiate themselves with Netanyahu’s extremist government but can’t be bothered to condemn the killing of Palestinian children.

Last August, I camped outside the DNC with other Palestinians and our allies when the DNC said they wouldn’t allow a Palestinian to speak at the convention. Not just an Uncommitted speaker, any Palestinian speaker.

My background as a Palestinian woman and as a student of international relations and human rights will play a major part in how I govern. I won’t be afraid to say what I believe should be obvious — like that war crimes are bad no matter who commits them and that children never deserve to die, regardless of their nationality.
