Dear Friend,

Jo Ellis is a United States Army chief warrant officer 2, Black Hawk helicopter pilot, and happens to be transgender. That is why she was viciously attacked and accused by Matt Wallace of deliberately crashing her Black Hawk into the plane that crashed in the Potomac River in January.

Mr. Wallace, who has millions of followers on X (formerly Twitter), made accusations that led to a litany of death threats against Jo and forced her into hiding with an armed security detail. Jo is very much still alive, serving her country honorably, and ready to fight back against hate and discrimination.

Which is why today we filed a lawsuit against Matt Wallace in Federal District Court for defamation. You can read more in today’s New York Times ([link removed]) , which just broke this story. When many others in the legal community are backing down from threats from extremists, the Equality Legal Action Fund will not, and we will continue to represent members of the LGBTQ+ community who are defamed and harassed by extremists.

We hope you will stand with us against extremists and hate. You can support our efforts by making a contribution here ([link removed]) or signing up to be one of our pro bono attorneys here ([link removed]) .

Thank you for all of your support,

Adam Morfeld, President
Meg Phelan, Legal Counsel

P.S. If you know of someone who is harassed or defamed by anti LGBTQ+ extremists please have them fill out our assistance form ([link removed]) today!
