Dear NRDC Activist,
President Trump launched a fresh attack on our environment and clean energy progress by unveiling a plan to accelerate coal mining and prop up old, dirty, climate-busting coal power plants.
This move flies in the face of common sense and benefits only the fossil fuel industry which backed his election. Increasing coal will harm everyone else by increasing already expensive electricity bills, worsening dangerous air pollution, and intensifying climate disasters.
Coal power has become very costly — expanding coal production and use will not benefit our pocketbooks.
Coal is filthy, uncompetitive, and unreliable. We should be doing all we can to build the energy system of the future, not trying to prop up the fossil fuels of the last century. "What's next, a mandate that we commute by horse and buggy?" says Kit Kennedy, Managing Director of NRDC's Power, Climate and Energy program.
Through legal action in court, grassroots pressure, and rallying opposition in Washington, NRDC is working to stop Trump's all-out effort to dismantle environmental protections. And we could not do this work without the support from our over 3 million members and supporters like you.
