What's Happening at the Center
In his latest blog post ([link removed]) , Jason Richwine examines 22 recent academic articles on the costs and benefits of immigration. No fair reading of the literature could conclude that immigration has only costs or only benefits, even though the benefits-only narrative is promoted by the media. Sadly, even some prominent economists have abandoned honest analysis to join this bandwagon. The fact is there are significant negative wage and employment effects from large-scale immigration, especially for low-skilled workers. And there are also important fiscal, cultural, and political issues affected by immigration that are typically ignored by those in power.

Put more simply, while there is a great deal of commerce back and forth over the Canadian border, there are few if any casual visitors, and just slightly more day-trippers. Plus, given the outbreaks of the Wuhan coronavirus in Washington State (20,764 with 1,106 deaths) and New York State (165,682, with 8,023 deaths), I seriously doubt most Canadians want to risk it.

The president, with a stroke of a pen, and without spending a dime of taxpayers' money, or even borrowing (from our grandkids), can give $2 billion a year to voters while raising the money exclusively from non-voters.
