Congressman Krishnamoorthi discusses the impacts of President Trump’s Tariffs on MSNBC. (Click the image above to watch the full interview.)

Last week, President Trump announced the imposition of blanket tariffs on nearly every country on Earth – including our allies, partners, and friends, many of whom don’t even charge tariffs on American goods. These so-called “Liberation Day” tariffs are anything but liberating; they are reckless, self-destructive, and deeply harmful to hardworking families and small businesses in Illinois and across the nation who will pay higher prices because of them.
Let’s be clear: these Trump tariffs represent the largest tax hike since the 1960s. At a time when small businesses are struggling to stay afloat and families are fighting to put food on the table, this policy strikes at the heart of our communities. Trillions of dollars in stock market value have already been wiped out, undercutting savings meant for college, homeownership, retirement, or just getting through a rainy day.
I am partnering with colleagues in the House and Senate to repeal President Trump’s tariffs before they harm more Americans. I urge all Illinoisans, regardless of party, to join me in calling on President Trump to end this disastrous policy before he sends our country into a recession.
You can watch my discussion of the need to end the tariffs with CBS2 Chicago, NBC5 Chicago, ABC7 Chicago, and MSNBC.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi addresses the crowd at the Elgin Hands Off rally on Saturday.(Click the video above to watch the congressman’s video following the rally.)

On Saturday, I joined millions of other Americans in attending a local Hands Off Rally. At the rally in Elgin, I spoke on the need to defeat attempts by President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their allies to slash critical programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and even Social Security. When my family faced hard times during my childhood, programs like SNAP and public housing helped my parents get us back on our feet. For me, any attempt to cut these essential programs is deeply personal. I would not be in the position I’m in today without the generosity of the American people, and I believe our government should be working for those trying to make it, not those who already have it made. I made clear during my remarks in Elgin that I will keep fighting any proposals and legislation that would rip away those same opportunities for our neighbors and our fellow Americans.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide visual art competition for high school students to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the country and within our congressional district. More than 650,000 students have participated since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982. I want to encourage all interested and eligible students in our district to submit their art. The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the Eighth District of Illinois. The Student Information and Release Form and the artwork are due by April 18, and you can find more details on my website here.
