John,
Republican leaders are pushing hard for the U.S. House to pass a budget resolution that paves the way for massive cuts to critical programs in order to pay for even more tax cuts for billionaires and large corporations. In an attempt to get holdouts to support the bill, last night President Trump posted: "I let them know that, I AM FOR MAJOR SPENDING CUTS! WE ARE GOING TO DO REDUCTIONS, hopefully in excess of $1 Trillion Dollars"1, and Speaker Johnson is trying to get this budget proposal passed in the next 24 hours.2
These cuts are coming at a time filled with economic uncertainty and chaos. The new tariffs put forth by Donald Trump will hit low-income households the hardest because they spend more of their money on necessities like food and clothing, a lot of which comes from overseas. According to Ernie Tedeschi, a former Chief Economist at the White House:3
“Tariffs are essentially a consumption tax, they’re a tax on spending, and lower-income families spend a greater share of their income than higher-income families do, so they’re just more exposed to tariffs.”
These are the same households that would lose access to health care coverage or nutrition benefits if draconian cuts are made to Medicaid, SNAP, and other human needs programs. Make no mistake: what we are seeing are enormous tax increases inflicted on working people and families in the form of tariffs, which some in Congress want to combine with enormous cuts in basic needs programs. Our government must stop inflicting more harm on the most vulnerable communities.
Send a message to your Representative and urge them to vote against a budget resolution that sets the stage for cruel cuts in order to pay for more tax cuts for billionaires.

John,
The Senate passed a budget resolution last week, and just as we thought—it lays the groundwork for cuts to human needs programs in order to fund tax handouts to the rich.
If this budget is enacted, it would not only renew the 2017 Trump-GOP tax scam, costing $5 trillion, but would add another $1.5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy. While the Senate was purposely vague about the cuts they were paving the way for in their budget resolution, saying only they’ll be cut by at least $4 billion, the House budget includes instructions to make at least $1.5 - $2 trillion in human needs cuts, while giving an extra $150 billion to the Pentagon and $175 billion to the Department of Homeland Security to fund Trump’s family separation and mass deportation machine.1 And today, House extremists are threatening to reject the budget unless they can get assurances about deep cuts to nutrition, health, and other assistance.2
This budget resolution makes it possible for Congress to go to the next destructive step: enacting huge cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other basic needs programs, to pay for huge tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations.
The full House is expected to vote as soon as tomorrow. Congress must hear from you now. Send a message to your Representative and urge them to vote against a budget that cuts critical human needs programs to fund more tax breaks for billionaires.

Whether the House ultimately cuts $500 billion or $1 trillion from Medicaid and SNAP, one thing is painfully clear: the congressional Republicans’ budget will cause real harm to tens of millions of vulnerable people. As Sharon Parrot, President of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, points out:3
“Even cuts that are a fraction of the size of the potential $880 billion cut to Medicaid and $230 billion cut to SNAP in the House instructions would cause serious harm, including increasing costs for strapped families and leaving more people uninsured and unable to afford enough food. While the President campaigned on protecting people who struggle in this economy, a budget bill that ultimately cuts SNAP, Medicaid, and student loans could mean parents skipping meals so their children can eat; adults going without needed cancer treatment or insulin to control diabetes, leading to poorer health and even death; and more families struggling to afford necessities and their student loan payments.”
We must fight against all cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and other critical programs.
Send a direct message to your Representative today and tell them to reject cuts to essential programs and vote NO on the budget resolution tomorrow.
