ALFRED - The Maine Department of Transportation will be realigning and reconstructing the intersection of Routes 4/202 (Waterboro Road) and Gore Road in Alfred. The southern end of the project area begins at Hazel Dell Apartments and extends 1500' north, ending roughly 300 beyond the American Legion and Fraternal Lodge buildings.

This project involves intersection realignment and reconstruction with drainage improvements. Work will include the addition of a center-turning lane with raised concrete islands, and a concrete island in front of Giles Farm Country Store. The work on the reconfigured portion of Gore Road will add 200 of newly paved roadway. This work will improve the safety of the intersection and connecting roadways.

On-site construction activities will begin this month. During construction, traffic through the project area will be restricted to a single lane of alternating traffic. The anticipated completion date of this work is July of this year. The contractor on this project is Shaw Brothers of Gorham. The contract amount is $1.5 million.
