The Arlington Chamber is joining the U.S. Chamber, and local and state chambers from across the country, in an initiative to address inequality of opportunity. The initiative will launch with a town hall event on June 25 where business and community leaders will discuss concrete actions that the government and the private sector can take to address inequality through education, employment, entrepreneurship, and criminal justice reform.

The national initiative is being led by a steering committee of leaders from coast to coast and across chambers and industries, including Vincent B. Orange, Sr., President and CEO of the DC Chamber of Commerce. Many local chambers from across the Commonwealth, and the Virginia Chamber are also joining the initiative. The work of this national initiative will build on the existing work of the Arlington Chamber, including the annual job shadow day we host with Arlington Public Schools and our active support of many internship programs.

Virginia’s governor recently signed into law nearly two dozen bills that provide significant new rights for Virginia employees, to combat wage theft, prohibit non-compete covenants for low-wage workers, and expand the scope of the ban on workplace discrimination. Also signed into law were enhanced employee whistleblower protections against retaliation for reporting suspected violations of state law or cooperating with law enforcement.
Help Metro with Service Planning – Share Your Organization's Return-to-Work Plans

As you may be aware, Metro has been working to provide Metrorail and Metrobus services for essential workers while minimizing health risks for our frontline employees. As this region gradually recovers from the pandemic, Metro aims to keep capacity ahead of demand—to enable social distancing to the extent possible. To inform its planning decisions, Metro is seeking feedback from employers about their expected “return-to-office” schedules, which would determine changes in demand for Metrorail and Metrobus services.
