Sharing Your Stories
Friends,
I know these are incredibly difficult times. In just the first few months of this new Administration, there has been so much chaos, confusion, and fear.
But now more than ever, it is so important that we remember: we are not powerless.
The power is with the people.
And one of the most powerful tools we have in our democracy is standing up, speaking out, and sharing our stories. As your Representative, I am committed to elevating your stories, bringing your concerns to Congress, and making sure we are fighting together to uphold our democracy and make life better for all Minnesotans and Americans.
We have created a form to share your story – linked HERE.
Examples of stories to share:
- Are you a small business owner who will be impacted by President Trump’s tariffs? We’re fighting back against President Trump’s reckless – and unnecessary – trade wars that are raising costs for Americans and putting our businesses at risk.
- Are you a new parent who needs to purchase baby gear? We’re fighting to make sure essential child care products are exempt from President Trump’s trade wars.
- Do you or a loved one get health care coverage or nursing home care coverage through Medicaid (known as Medical Assistance in Minnesota)? The Republican majority in Congress is looking to gut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts to billionaires – and we’re fighting back to say that they cannot threaten millions of Americans’ access to health care.
- Do you or a loved one rely on a clinical trial or medical research that’s funded by NIH? President Trump is gutting medical research – and we’re fighting to stop it.
- Do you or a loved one receive care or work at the VA? We’re fighting back against President Trump’s mass firing of VA employees to ensure veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned.
I am deeply committed to elevating your stories – raising your concerns – and advocating every day on behalf of the incredible people of Minnesota’s Third District.
Over the past few months, I’ve been taking the stories and concerns of our neighbors in the Third District to the House floor, to press conferences with local media, and to social media to spread the word and fight for the people that these harmful policies would be impacting.
Some recent examples below:
Protecting Medicaid for Seniors like Bob
Earlier this year I met Bob, a Bloomington resident who bravely served his country in the U.S. Marine Reserve and, like 62% of all nursing home residents across the country, gets his nursing home coverage through Medicaid. Bob told me he wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Medicaid — and he’s extremely concerned about Congressional Republicans’ proposed cuts of at least $880 billion dollars to Medicaid.
I took Bob's concerns to the House floor to highlight the devastating impact the Republican proposed budget would have on nursing home residents and to implore my Republican colleagues to work with us on a budget that would give our seniors the care they need and deserve.
To share Bob’s story and fight for the millions of seniors across the country who rely on Medicaid, we held a press conference at Ebenezer Senior Living Facility in Bloomington, I shared Bob’s story on the House floor, and we shared Bob’s story on social media.
Thank you, Bob, for speaking out! I’ll keep doing everything I can to protect Medicaid.
Sharing Jeff and Bev’s Concern About Trump Dismantling Social Security
A few weeks ago at my town hall, a couple named Jeff and Bev asked me this question:
If (or when) Trump ends Social Security, Bev and I will be unable to pay our mortgage. We will become homeless at age 70! What can we do? What should we do?
It is unacceptable that Jeff and Bev should even have to worry about their Social Security, but empowered by President Trump, multi-billionaire Elon Musk – the richest man in the world – has sent the Social Security Administration into chaos with long wait times, crashing websites, dozens of offices facing closures, and increasing barriers for Americans to access their hard-earned benefits.
Tens of millions of Americans like Jeff and Bev depend on Social Security. It’s their livelihood, their hard-earned benefit, and a promise from the federal government that they spent decades of their lives paying into. Social Security must be protected.
I took their question to the House floor to remind Washington how critical Social Security is for Americans. See more here: US Rep. Kelly Morrison Raises Local Bloomington Residents’ Concern Over Trump’s Billionaire-Administration’s Dismantling of Social Security on U.S. House Floor.
Fighting to Lower Costs for Families like Nana Renee’s
I had the pleasure of meeting some families at our local Head Start in Brooklyn Park last week. One of the women I met was Nana Renee – she’s a mother and grandmother and she just welcomed a new baby grandson into her family. Nana Renee knows how expensive it is to raise a child – and President Trump’s economic agenda is only making it worse.
Under President Trump’s new sweeping tariffs, costs will only go up. Items like cribs, strollers, high chairs, and car seats, essential items for a new baby, could cost as much as 54% more.
Working families will be the first to suffer from these reckless – and completely unnecessary – price hikes. I took Nana Renee’s story to the House floor, and I led 45 of my Democratic colleagues in calling on the Trump Administration to exempt essential baby products from these reckless trade wars.
It’s my honor to serve our district, and I want to do everything I can to make sure your voices and your stories are being heard. If you have been affected by the Administration’s actions, please share your story. Keep speaking out and fighting – and I promise, I will too.
My best,
Kelly Morrison
Member of Congress
