Dear friend,
I hope you are well! I am continuing my work in Milwaukee and in D.C., working to protect education services at the Department of Education, Social Security, and Medicaid. I am also advancing my own proposals to benefit low-income workers and strengthen the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). And yes, I am still rockin' my red shoes! ❤
Expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit

I recently reintroduced my legislation, the Worker Relief and Credit Reform (WRCR) Act, which would expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to more workers and recognize unpaid caregiving, which produces more than $1 trillion worth of work each year. I was so energized to be joined by Congresswoman Judy Chu and dedicated advocates to discuss this proposal, which will fight poverty and put money in the hands of working people. Read more on the WRCR Act here.
Protecting the Department of Education
Several of my Democratic colleagues and I met with Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon. We raised important concerns, and I specifically asked about the need to protect the civil rights of students, especially as the Trump administration hollows out the agency's Office for Civil Rights.
Protecting Social Security
Trump and Musk's DOGE are undermining Social Security through closing field offices, disrupting customer service, and working to fire 7,000 workers, even as they serve a record number of beneficiaries. I joined my Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) colleagues in speaking out against these attacks. I will always stand up for Social Security!
Hands Off in Milwaukee!
So many Americans gathered around the country to join in protest of Trump's attacks on civil servants, our fundamental freedoms, and vital programs like Social Security, the VA and Medicaid. I was so proud to join in solidarity with my constituents in Milwaukee.
Attacks on Social Security

At a Steering and Policy Hearing, I asked Former Social Security Administrator Martin O'Malley about the stakes of these ill-advised decisions at the Social Security Administration (SSA) and what their double whammy means for beneficiaries. Watch here.
