Greg Abbott just announced that he will hold a congressional seat open for nine months—so that he can pad congressional Republicans’ majority in the House.

Last month, my colleague and friend Rep. Sylvester Turner, who represented a solidly Democratic district in the Houston area, passed away after a fight with bone cancer.

After delaying scheduling the election as long as possible, Abbott announced yesterday that the special election will be on November 4—nine months after Rep. Turner’s passing.

That is not acceptable. Texans are tired of Greg Abbott’s failed leadership and political games – chip in to help organize and mobilize Texans to defeat him.

Make no mistake: Greg Abbott is intentionally holding this seat open to protect the very slim majority Republicans have in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Abbott is playing political games and acting as Donald Trump’s puppet — while screwing nearly one million Texans out of their congressional representation for nine months. And it’s coming at a time when Trump and Musk are trying to slash Social Security and Medicaid, and other federal investments that members of Congress fight for.

We need to hold Greg Abbbott accountable for this blatant political power grab that will hurt Texans. Can you chip in $25, or whatever you can, to help us organize and mobilize Texans against Greg Abbott?
