Dear Friends,
I am excited to share the latest news from Congress and the work I am doing in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the 34th Congressional District of Texas.
Warm regards,

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez
Condemned the Trump Administration for removing Sergeant Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez from the Naval History Website
On March 31st, I delivered a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives condemning the Trump Administration’s shameful removal of Edinburg hometown hero, U.S. Marine Sergeant Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, from the Naval History website. Anyone who has put on our country’s uniform and fought for our freedoms deserves to be recognized, no matter their background, the religion they practice, or their family’s country of origin.

Opposed the Dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education
On Thursday, March 20th, I released a statement following President Trump’s executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, jeopardizing the long-term success of our South Texas students.

Read my Statement on Disastrous “Liberation Day” Tariffs
On April 2nd, the Trump Administration announced sweeping 10 percent across-the-board tariffs on all imports and double-digit tariffs on dozens of countries as part of “Liberation Day.” These tariffs will raise the price of virtually all goods we consume.
While I agree that we should always advocate for fairer trade, South Texans need economic stability, not chaos and higher prices. The President must focus on strategies that will actually lower costs for South Texans.

Sent a Letter to Governor Greg Abbott urging a Disaster Declaration
On Friday, March 28th, I sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott urging him to issue a disaster declaration for our region after a historic rainfall caused severe flooding throughout South Texas. I am grateful that the Governor heeded my call and issued the disaster declaration.
