Breaking news, John: Yesterday, the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms announced they would end the “zero-tolerance” policy that held negligent gun dealers accountable for violating federal law.

In a moment, we’re going to explain why exactly this is so bad for the fight against the gun violence epidemic, but first, we have to ask: Can you chip in $5, $10, or whatever you’re able to help us advance gun safety measures in the states?

Here’s why this matters: 90% of gun crimes come from just 5% of gun dealers. Weakening this provision will make it harder to hold gun dealers to account for dangerous and negligent practices that put firearms in the hands of criminals and result in illegal weapons in our streets. 

We know this policy worked. Since its implementation, the Biden administration was able to hold problem dealers accountable, targeting the dealers with the worst violations. Repealing it will make our communities less safe while allowing law breakers to continue unchecked.

But we also know the solution to keep states safer: Pass commonsense gun safety legislation in the states, where we can make progress – and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.
