5 Reasons a wild turkey hunt is the perfect opportunity for beginner hunters:
* *Turkey hunting is interactive.* Calling in a tom turkey and chatting with them is often cited as a turkey hunter's favorite experience. Nothing gets your heart pounding like a tom's mighty gobble.
* *Spring turkey hunting season is much warmer than many other hunting seasons. *A challenge for hunters (new and seasoned alike) can be cold weather. Soak up the sun and enjoy hunting in spring and summer-like conditions.
* *Lots of opportunity across the state.* Wild turkeys are abundant in Maine and there is lots of opportunity throughout the state, making it easier to find a location close to home. Chat with a local landowner [ [link removed] ] to gain permission to hunt on their land and learn about turkey activity on their property. Or hunt on a Wildlife Management Area [ [link removed] ].
* *Turkey meat is easy to prepare and delicious. *The small size makes it the easiest big game species to prepare for the dinner table. Try this wild turkey burger with fresh dill, bacon, and a secret sauce. [ [link removed] ]
* *Requires less gear.* Dark clothing and/or camo and a pair of hiking boots is all one needs to join the hunt! If the beginner hunter is interested in shooting, add a shotgun and shotgun shells to the list. Blinds are recommended for beginner hunters who are less used to sitting still and a simple turkey call may make the hunt more interactive.
